Mr. Fred Wiley, Jr.'s Obituary
Fred Wiley Jr. was born June 18, 1947 to the late Fred Wiley Sr. and Mary Etta Nero Wiley in Memphis, TN. Fred grew up in Chicago, IL and attended St. Phillips High School. He was the oldest of five siblings: one brother, Urese Symiel, and three sisters, Arnita Elaine, Wanza Renee' and Kimberly Ann. Fred graduated from St. Phillips Catholic High School in Chicago, IL in 1967. After a brief period at the University of Chicago, he enrolled into Rust College in Holly Springs, MS. Fred was a staf basketball player as captain of the team, nominated student of the year, president of the science club, vice president of the Student Council and he crossed over the burning sands of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He graduated Cum Laude from from Rust College in 1970 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in chemistry and mathematics. After graduating from Rust College, Fred attended the University of Kansas for further studies. Fred met the love of his life, Georgia Shadwick, at Rust College after trying to recruit her into the Science Club. He failed. She then joined the following year. Every since then they dated and he captured her heart. While Fred was in graduate school and Georgia was in graduate school at University of the Pacific, Stockton CA, he proposed. Georgia knew that she was going to say yes, but she made him wait until the next day. They married on Christmas day in 1971. To this union two children were born. Their daughter Radhiya Sharifa Wiley and their son Tarik Jabari Wiley. Fred worked for the Goodyear Tire Corporation as a chemist in Topeka, KS from 1972 to 1980. He transferred to Kelly Springfield Tire Corporation in Tyler, TX as a compounder from 1980 to 1997. He retired from Goodyear and Kelly Springfield in 1997. Next, he moved his family to Salem, VA where he upgraded his position as a compounder department supervisor. Throughout his life, Fred was an active member of churches and organizations. In Tyler, TX he volunteered for the youth as a coach for little league baseball and basketball. He was president and member of Rose City Civitan Club, member of Phi Beta Sigma, a member of Miles Chapel C.M.E church where he served as a member of the trustee board and choir member. In Salem, VA he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and served as president of United Methodist men and church counsel. Moreover he served his community as a member of Dinner Dance club, Sigma Pi Phi, Beta Phi Boule' Fraternity, CSSO (Cultural Social Services Organization and CHUMS), where the men are called HUMS. In July of 2020, he and Georgia moved to Meridian, MS to live the rest of his life. Fred Wiley Jr. passed away on November 23, 2020 at Andersons Hospital in Meridian, MS. He was preceded in death by parents, Fred Wiley Sr. and Mary Etta Wiley Garner, his brother, Urese Wiley, 14 aunts and uncles on his father's side and 10 aunts and uncles on his mother's side with the exception of his aunt Florence Peterson of Chicago, IL.He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Georgia Shadwick Wiley of Meridian, MS; two children who loved him deaily -daughter, Radhiya Wiley of Houston, TX and son Tarik (Lynell) Wiley of Olive Branch, MS; three sisters, Arnita Stagger of Pittsburgh, PA, Wanza (Rutherford) Wilson of Chicago, IL, Kimberly Thornton of Chicago, IL; one sister in law, LuSharon Wiley of Pensacola, Fl.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
