Mr. Gary Wayne Langston's Obituary
Gary Wayne Langston, the oldest brother of nine children born to Louis and Annie (Russell) Langston, was born on June 2, 1957. He attended Middleton Attendance Center before school desegregation took place. After school desegregation, he attended Northeast High School where he stayed until he graduated. Gary graduated from Northeast High School in 1974 at the age of 16. He was a very smart and intelligent individual and was able to graduate a year before his class. During his younger years, he developed a love for mechanic work. After graduating from high school, Gary started working at Scott's Truck Stop in Russell, Mississippi, where he would begin his diesel/heavy machinery mechanical career. A few years after graduation, Gary and a friend moved to Chicago, Illinois, where other family members had migrated from Russell, Mississippi, to live. After moving to Chicago, he met Erma Williams and they welcomed their daughter into the world. He remained in the Chicago area until God called his name, visiting Mississippi more frequently later in his life. Even though Gary spent so many years in the city, he never forgot his southern roots and lifestyle. He loved to cook big meals of southern style dishes such as collard greens, dressing, dumplings, and more. He would invite everyone over to his house to eat. Any dish he didn't know how to make, he would call his mom or his big sister for the recipe. And when Gary would grill, you couldn't beat him boasting and bragging about being the best griller in the whole world! He would find any reason to throw a party and cook. He loved to take pictures of everyone ( except himself) having fun so he could share those special memories of his family and friends with everyone. His love for music was like no other. He possessed any type of music you could ever think of and he didn't mind playing it for you ... LOUDLY! Anytime you hung around Gary, you were sure to have a good time! Gary was introduced to God at Good Hope CME Church at a young age. His biblical and spiritual upbringing carried him through his whole life. Through all his trials and tribulations, he maintained his love for God. He always thanked God for blessing him to see another day. His love for God continued until his death. Gary made his eternal transition on Saturday, July 27th• He was preceded in death by his father, Louis, Sr.; sister, Nettie Christine; and brother, Noah James. Cherishing his memories are his mother, Annie Speller; daughter, Shakeena Williams; 4 sisters, Martha Langston, Laura Langston, Vivian (David) Tingle, and Jessie (James) Houston; 2 brothers, Louis Langston, Jr., and Benjamin Langston; 1 granddaughter, Essence Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends:
