Mr. George Lee Alford, Jr.'s Obituary
George Lee Alford, Jr. was born May 25, 1946 to the late George Lee and the late Willie Ruth Barksdale Alford. George was a lifelong resident of Meridian MS. He graduated from Harris High and attended Alcorn State University. George loved to repair most anything, but his ultimate passion was driving trucks, which he did for over 40 years under the handle of "SLOW MOTION". His family marveled at his ability to do anything with a hammer and nail, a skill he passed on to his daughters. At an early age, George joined Oak Grove Church of God. He was very active in many ministries at Oak Grove until his health failed. His most recent ministries included, Sunday School Superintendent, member of both the Adult and Male Choirs, and served as a Deacon. George's favorite saying was "I Thank God for Being Saved", as he knew he was a Redeemed Child of God. Additionally, he was Technology Advisor for the Video and Audio Ministries. George was a member of Meridian-Lauderdale Alcorn Alumni Chapter and Teamsters Local 891. George served his country in the US Army from 1969 thru 1971. George transitioned from time to eternity on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016 at the Specialty Hospital of Meridian. His memories will be cherished by his wife of 39 years, Gloria Woods Alford; daughters, Angela (Sharod) Woods-Hall, Tuscaloosa, AL, Carmalita Alford-Simmons and Maria (Jermaine) Alford-Griffin, both of Houston, TX; brothers, Willie Lee (Ruth) Alford, Meridian, MS and John Lewis (Candace) Alford of Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Darius, Princeton, Ca' Angria, Justus, and Harley; aunt, Mrs. Katherine Pigford, Meridian, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
