Mr. George Rufus Lanier's Obituary
Mr. George Rufus Lanier was born on December 2, 1946 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi to the late Mable McCoy and George Lanier. George accepted Christ at an early age at Simmons Ridge Baptist Church in Kemper County, Mississippi. George united in holy matrimony to Rita Lemon Brookshire. For many years, he worked for GMEO Railroad. Later, he became a dedicated employee with Lauderdale County where he worked until his retirement. After years of being retired, he returned to work with the Meridian Public School District. George was preceded in death by his parents, George Lanier and Mable McCoy Lanier; two sons, Terry Lanier and Tony Lanier; and his grandson, Richard McQuarley. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Rita Lanier; two sons: Kenneth Lanier of Meridian, MS, and Alex Brookshire (Zonitra) of Fort Wayne, IN; four daughters: Stacy L. McQuarley, Teresa L. Scott, Michelle Silliman, and Cynthia P Brookshire-Boyd (Marcus) all of Meridian, MS; two sisters: Betty Monte and Mablene Johnson both of Florida; three brothers: Robert Lanier (Carolyn) of Jackson, MS, Kenny Lanier (Collene) of Florida, and James Lanier of Meridian, MS. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
