Mr. Gerald Wayne Thomas' Obituary
Gerald Wayne Thomas was born to the union of Larnie and Helen Clark Thomas on November 28, 1946 in Meridian, MS. He grew up in a Christian environment. At an early age Gerald accepted Christ and was baptized at New Prospect Baptist Church, Savoy, MS. He was a faithful worker at New Prospect and later moved to Savannah Grove Baptist Church, Meridian, MS where served in various capacities until his health declined. Gerald attended Meridian Public Schools and graduated from TJ. Harris High School with the class of 1964. He would attend Harris Jr. College for two years. After completing his tenure at Harris Jr. College, he enrolled at Alcorn State University. He was drafted into the Armed Services. He volunteered to serve in the US. Navy beginning February 1970 and served three years and six months. God allowed him to return safely to Meridian. Gerald began to work for a short while in Pascagoula, MS at Ingalls Ship Buildfng Incorporated. Afterwards, he returned to continue his education at Alcorn University where he received a B.S. Degree in Industrial Arts. After receiving his degree, he returned to Meridian to work at Meridian High School. After his tenure with the school system, Gerald was employed by the Naval Air Station in Meridian, MS. As a disabled veteran he would stay there until his full retirement. He later met the love of his life, Barbara Lewis and they were married on October 8, 2016. He was called home on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Larnie Thomas; brother, William Thomas and Sister Annie Thomas Price. Leaving to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Mrs. Barbara Thomas, Meridian, MS. One son, Attorney Gerald (Staci) Brooks, Hoover, AL; One daughter, Anitra Brooks, Atlanta, GA; a grandson Gerran Brooks, Atlanta, GA; a granddaughter, Charlotte Grace Brooks, Hoover, AL.; his mother, Mrs. Helen Clark Thomas, Meridian, MS; brothers: Walter (Tommie Jean) Clark, Ellisville, MS; Rev. Charles (Inez) Thomas Sr., Catahoula, MS; Kenneth (Mildred) Thomas Sr., Purvis, MS; sisters: Gloria Garner, Meridian, MS and Sheryl Thomas (Willie Earl) Willis, Meridian, MS; one brother in-law, Louis (Josetta) Walker, Marietta, GA.; aunts, Mrs. Wilhelmina (Wilford) Hayes, Apopka, FL and Mrs. Lela Beatrice Jordan, Cincinnati, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special nephew Jayden Thedford, whom he enjoyed sharing special times and snacks with.
