Mrs. Gertha Ree Cole Price's Obituary
Gertha Ree Cole was born on February 19, 1927 in Kemper County, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roberta and A. C. Cole and siblings Bertha Ree Cole and Joseph Roger, Jr. Gertha Ree Cole graduated from the Meridian Baptist Seminary High School in 1948. Later that year she married Willie J. Price Sr. in June 1948. They raised five wonderful sons: Bennie J. Price, George R. Price, Larry J. Price, Willie J. Price Jr., and Thurgood M Price. They remained true and dear to this union until his death in 2005. Her career path included work in the Meridian Public School District which she retired as Nutritional Services Manager as well as other retail service positions. Gertha Ree Price started her spiritual journey at the Antioch Baptist Church in Kemper County. She later moved to Meridian, Mississippi and became a member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Deaconess Ministry, the Missionary Society and sang in the church's Mass Choir. Mrs. Price worked and supported youth groups and supported the church in other roles as "Momma Price " until her health failed. She earned her wings on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Queen City Nursing Center in Meridian, Mississippi. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: five sons, Bennie J. Price (Elizabeth) of Ft. Washington, MD; George R. Price, Meridian MS; Larry J. Price (Janet) of Lawrenceville, GA; Willie J. Price, Jr. (Valerie) of Hampton, VA; and Thurgood M Price (Debra) of Houston, TX and has sixteen wonderful grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.
