Mrs. Gertrude Plummer-Bailey's Obituary
ertrude Plummer was born April 24, 1930 in Pachuta, MS to the late Richard Plummer, Sr. and Rosie Brown Plummer. Called "Aunt Gert" by mostly everyone she met. She was warmly loved by many friends and family. Gertrude received her education from Shirley Owens and other learning facilities. "Aunt Gert" called by relatives, friends and acquaintances was the name she liked. There was no one who did not call her Aunt Gert. Seeking a better life for us, we moved to Jamaica, Queens, New York where she worked as a domestic. She continued to look for life improvement through the CETA Training Program, computer technology and finally as a telephone operator. We later moved to New Jersey and then she decided to return home, the place she loved, Pachuta, Mississippi, to care for her father. Gertrude accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. After moving back home from New Jersey, she joined Mt. Hebron MB Church, Pachuta, MS and later moved her membership to Tabernacle Church of God, Pachuta, Mississippi. She loved the church and served as Sunday school teacher, Treasurer, and the superintendent. She kept all areas of the church clean and orderly, and never complained even if she had to go to the church at night. She often sang one of her favorite songs, "If You Cant Help Me, Please don't Stop Me". Gardening was her "baby", peas, fig and berry picking brought her much joy. Just watching God's creations grow made her happy. She also loved to bake cakes and cook southern foods. Gertrude met and married Henry Bailey. On Sunday night, June 21, 2020, God called her home to rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Rosie Plummer; seven brothers, John Wilson, Henry, Lugene, Leon, Thomas, C.J., and Leo; seven sisters, Carrie Payne, Lillie Dansby, Getherine Plummer, Henrietta Spencer, Randella Strickland, Flora Jasper, and Mary Gordon. She leaves to cherish her memories; one devoted daughter, Freda Jane Fountain, Pachuta MS, whose father is Roscoe Fountain; one god-child, Nancy Johnson and grandchild, Demetrius Johnson, Meridian, MS; two brother, Richard Plummer, Jr. (Uncle Woody) Pachuta, MS and Charles Franklin Plummer, Battle Creek, Michigan.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
