Mrs. Gloria Lewis' Obituary
Gloria Ann Powe Lewis was the second child born to the union of the late Porterfield Powe and Clara Powe in Lauderdale County on Febmaiy 27, 1962. She departed this life on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at her home. She is preceded in death by her father, Porterfield Powe and brother, James Powe. Gloria’s life in Christ was an amazing journey for her. She was baptized at First Apostolic church of Quitman, MS under the leadership of Pastor John H. Willis. She later changed her membership to Agape Storehouse Apostolic Church of Meridian, MS under the leadership of Pastor John H. Willis where she remained until her death. She attended Quitman High School graduating in 1980. She was active in band where she played the trumpet and baritone. She was voted Miss QHSin 1980. She attended Meridian community College where she received her nursing degree in 1982. She was married to Lamorris B. Lewis of Quitman, MS.
Gloria was always loving, helpful, passionate, and outspoken. she never met a stranger. She was a people person. She was always talking about God and encouraged others. Everything she did was from the heart. She made you feel loved and appreciated. Gloria was a retired nurse. She did it from her heart. She made her patients feel loved and cared for. She started her nursing career at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro, MS in 1982. She left there and went to East Mississippi State Hospital from 1988 to 1992. She supervised a unit and created a system named “The Book”. This provided every nurse with information they needed for the unit. after East Mississippi, she worked at Workforce Wellness. She was certified in hearing testing, breathing testing, and breath alcohol testing, TB skin testing and collecting drug screens. From 1997 to 2004, she was a callback nurse at Immediate Care Family clinic. She retired after, but she was always somewhere lending a helping hand. Gloria was active in her church and community.
She loved God. Everywhere she went, she spoke about Goci and dropped little nuggets. She was a former nurse on Agape Storehouse Nurses Guild. She formed this ministry because of her love for nursing and helping. She was a prayer warrior. She believed in praying and interceding for others. You could find her at the altar praying or worshipping God. She loved God, family, and people. She leaves her cherished memories to: Lamorris B. Lewis of Quitman, MS; her mother, Clara R. Powe; one sister, Mrs. Diane (Bill) Nobles of Quitman, MS; her two daughters, Mrs. Erica L. (De'Ontae) Coleman of Meridian, MS and Tierra S. (Koyre) Rainey of Quitman, MS; 7 grandchildren, Laila, Maliyah, Kylie, Cassie, Gabriel, Kensley and Koyreon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
