Mr. Harold Paul Dean's Obituary
On July 25, 1947, Emerson and Doris Dean welcomed their first child into the world in Washington. DC. They named him Harold Paul Dean. He would go on to live a life faithfully and selflessly engaged with many religious, civic, and political organizations to improve the fives and well being of others On October 7,2018, God summoned Harold to join his beloved mother and father in His Heavenly Kingdom, fits presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever be felt by those who knew and loved him.
Shortly after Harold was bom, Emerson and Doris moved to Yazoo City, MS, a Small town nestled in the Delta. The Deans moved into their family home on Calhoun Avenue where Harold would soon be joined by three other siblings: Marshall, Reginald and Melinda. After graduating from St Francis Catholic High School, Harold enrolled at Mississippi Valley State College.
While attending Valley, Harold met Marietta Jones. Upon graduation, they married in Yazoo City. Harold then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and ascended to the rank of Captain during his service. He would later attend Mississippi State University. They remained married for 12 years. From that union, two children were bom: Saida amid Marshall. Harold would later father another daughter, Tosha McGill.
On April 13,1995, Harold married his longtime love, Carol Tureaud Dean, While their union did not birth any newborns, it forver united their five children: Gabriel, Saida, Kama, Tosha and Marshall. Harold and Carol would go on to live a happy and eventful life together filled with spiritual growth, new adventures and new friendships. Harold was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Meridian, MS and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Shreveport, LA.
Sadly, nearly 21 years ago, Harold was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Semper Fi to the Corp, he did what any good Marine does when faced with adversity: he improvised, adapted and overcame. He became: a charter member of the Knights of Peter Qaver Meridian Council 206; a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Shreveport Council 144; an active member of UAW Local 2185 Delco Remy and UAW Local Shreveport 2166, where he served as recording secretary and was instrumental in the Get Out to Vote Campaign; he was chairman of the UAW International Veterans Committee for several years; he was a relentless volunteer for Overton Brooks Veterans Hospital in Shreveport and Meals on Wheels; he was a member of the Northwest Louisiana Interfaith Committee; he remained an effervescent member of the Mississippi Valley State Alumni Association; and after many years of preparation and study, he was ordained a Permanent Deacon on May 8,2005, by Bishop William Friend of the Diocese of the Shreveport, LA. Harold retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Harold and Carol remained happily married until he took his last breath, where Carol sat faithfully by his side.
He is survived by his spouse, Carol Dean; son, Marshall Dean (Marisa); two daughters: Haroldette Saida Holt 0onathan) and Tosha McGill; son and daughter by marriage: Gabriel Shack and Kama Manuel (Errol); grandchildren: Sydney and Jonathan Holt, Brentley and Brooklyn Dean, Avery Johnson, Myles and Morgan Ursin, Gabriel Jones, Candiss Willingham, Cameron Shack, Gabrielle, Isa bell and Kendelle Shack, Brothers: Marshall Dean, Reginald Dean (Margaret); sister, Melinda Church; aunt, Marilyn Dean along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
