Mrs. Hattie C. Scott's Obituary
Hattie C. Scott was born April 17, 1929 in Shuqualak, MS, to Walter Dew (affectionately called, Papa Walter) and Addie B. Cotton. She was the eldest girl of 6 children, three of whom preceded her in death. “Sister” as she was endearingly called, married Jack Scott, September 24, 2946. To this union, five children were born. In 1956, they moved to Meridian, whee she began a flourishing career at Riley’s Hospital, serving devotedly for 40 years. She was inspiring and uplifting in her work environment as well as her community. Neighborhood children always thought of her as “mom”. She retired from Riley’s Hospital, stayed active in the church and actively engaged in raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If there was a need in her family or community, she was always there. She served as an usher at New Hope Baptist Church. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, she served as Choir President and Treasurer. Hattie was selected as Mother of the Year in 2014 at New Hope. She leaves five children to cherish her memory: john Howard Scott (Marie) of Winter Springs, FL; Ethel Ree (Rita) Presley of Jackson, MS; Jackie Marve (Robert) of Baton Rouge, LA; Addie D. Brown of Spring Hill, TN; and Lisa M. Scott of Upper Marlboro, MD. She also leaves ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
