Mrs. Hattie Stringfellow Lewis Shadwick's Obituary
Hattie Stringfellow Lewis Shadwick was born on October 8, 1929 to the late J.W. Stringfellow & Jewel Boose Stringfellow in Meridian, MS.
Hattie received her education at Mt. Sinai School and graduated in 1947. Upon completing high school and receiving her diploma, she furthered her education at Jackson College where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She was a scholar during her high school and college years.
Hattie accepted Christ at an early age and united with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, MS (Lost Gap Community). She later united with Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, MS, where she served faithfully until her health started declining. She truly loved the Lord and was very strong believer is God’s Holy Word.
She was a faithful and an active church member and she served in several capacities which includes, but are not limited to, the choir, usher board and Sunday School teacher. She was an exceptional piano player and piano teacher. All of her students are well accomplished pianists. Hattie also loved living her life to the fullest. Sh enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with family. She had an incredible “green thumb” when it came to gardening, especially flowers. The flowers she planted in each of us shall continue to grow in our hearts forever.
Hattie met ad married James Edward Lewis, Sr. in October 1, 1949. To this union, 4 children were born. Later in life, she married Odell Shadwick on February 14, 2008.
Hattie had been on the battlefield fighting for the Lord a very long time. After a lifelong battle with the sufferings of this world, God saw fit to shut down her battleground and call her home to be with Him on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. She peacefully went to sleep in the arms of Jesus with her family surrounded at her bedside.
Hattie is preceded in death by her husbands; parents, J.W. and Jewel Boose Stringfellow and three (3) brothers.
Hattie leaves to honor her legacy and cherish her memories: her four (4) children: James Edward Lewis, Jr., Patricia Ann Mitchell (G.B.), Lawrence Lewis, and Sandra Joyce Williams (Charles); a caring and loving sister, Daisy Stringfellow Louis of Lithia Springs, GA; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Regina Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
