Mrs. Helen Evans Chapman's Obituary
I was born March 28, 1922 in Meridian, Mississippi the second child of five to the late Eugene Sr. and Mabelle Evans. In the early 1930’s, I moved to Newton County where I and my siblings were raised by our grandparents the late Miles and Everlina Evans. I attended school in Newton County where I met the love of my life, Fredrick Douglas Chapman. We were united in Holy Matrimony October 14, 1940. To this Union, 10 children were born.
Preceding me in death; my husband of 67 years, to whom I was affectionately referred to by the name "John," my oldest son Claude, one brother, three sisters, three grandchildren, one great grandchild. I united with Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Newton, MS where I served as secretary and President of the Home Mission. I also served as Dean and Treasury of the Third Enterprise Women District Convention. I leave to cherish my memories three daughters, Wilma Earvin (Daniel) of Meridian, MS, Evelyn Jean Guyton, of Denver, CO an.d Bernice McCune of Newton, MS. Six Sons Mittis (Pat), Charles (Patsy) both of Denver, CO, Henry · (Lola), Alvin (Jenny) of Newton, MS, Melvin (Bernadette) of Byram, MS and Andrew (Marcelyn) of Copperas Cove, lX. Thirty -Four Grand Children, Ninety-Five Great Grand Children, Twenty-Six Great Great Grand Children. One Sister-in-law, Susie Evans of Baton Rouge, LA.; One brother-in-law, Sylvester Holmes of Newton, MS.; One daughter-in-law, Brenda Chapman of Denver, CO and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
