Mr. Henry R. Owens' Obituary
Henry R. Owens, born ( on his mother's Birthday), April 11, I 937 in Chicago, [llinois to the late Mamie and Morgan Owens. Henry, at an early age, confessed his love for the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. He later joined Holy Memorial Miracle Temple where Bishop Gregory Allen is the Pastor. Henry was a man who protected and guided his words so that you wo9uld have a proper understanding, After working thirty seven years for the City of Chicago in the Depart-ment of Forestry as the area Field Supervisor, Henry decided to retire and he and his wife Crystal moved back to Quitman, Mississippi making First Church of God their church home. (Crystal preceded him in death) In December, 2004, Henry married his sweetheart, Mattie Hazzard Grayson whom he affectionately called "Girlfriend". After Mattie's retirement from the Chicago Police Department they made their home in Quitman. Mattie also made First Church of God her church home under the present leadership of Pastor James Hopson. His memories will be mostly cherished by his wife, Mattie L. Owens, Quitman, MS; Mary Myrick,Chicago, Illinois, Margaretta Owens, Cynthia Owens, Debra Kori, Elissa (David) Hill all of Texas; Mitchell Owens, Marvin (Valerie) Wallace, Melvina Wallace, Melinda (Lenzie) Harris, Tunya M. Grayson, all of Chicago, IL; a special friend, Keith Winston, Chicago, IL; Also leaving to cherish his memories are a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
