Dr. Hilda L. Walk's Obituary
On August 8, 1948, a bouncing baby girl was born to the late Levi and Lucy Lewis, who they named Hilda. She was the second of four children born to this union.
Hilda joined the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed.
Hilda was educated in the Newton County School System. Her collegiate years were spent at Meridian Junior College and Mississippi Valley State University. She became a nurse, and later received her Doctorate of Divinity, which she was very proud of.
In 1966, Hilda married Leon Walk Sr., and to this union three children were born.
Miss Tilday, as she was affectionately called by her father, was a very strong willed woman. She did not give up easily. Life gave up on Hilda, she did not give up on life. She loved birds and once named a possum, Bobo.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Leon Walk, Sr; one daughter, Mary Sherrell Walk; and one son, Leon Dewayne Walk.
On December 20, 2020, Hilda was called from labor to rest at her home in Meridian, MS.
She is survived by: her son, Derrick Walk; one sister, Helen L. Allen of Tulsa, OK; two brothers: Levi Lewis, Jr. (Marsha), of Addison, IL; and Ron Lewis, of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Jeanine Lewis, of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren: Purvis Burrage, Keisha Burrage, Shamorka Russell, Doretta Rhoney and Charlotte Jones; special friend: Nissey Gilright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
