Mrs. Ida Mae McCarty Norwood's Obituary
Ida Mae McCarty Norwood was born May 31, 1932 in Whynot, Mississippi to Johnny and Hatte L. Johnson. She was reared by her foster parents Mr. Quimp and Fannie E. McCarty (Aunt Babe) in Yantley, Alabama. She attended school at Maple Springs School. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Springs Baptist Church. She later moved to Meridian, Mississippi and united with Jodie Norwood, Jr in matrimony. She was employed at the Holiday Inn of Meridian for 45 years as a food service worker. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, and playing with her pet dogs. She was preceeded in death by her son: Quimp (Jr) McCarty, parents: Johnny Johnson and Hatte L. Johnson, foster parents: Quimpy McCarty and Fannie E. McCarty, three sisters: Dorothy Brewster, Marth Ann Cannardy and Gloria Hill, one brother: James E. Johnson and foster brother ( cousin): Eddie Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory one Son Jodie Norwood Ill (Addie) of Meridian, MS, one daughter Evelyn (Missy) Taylor (Barry) of Coatopa, AL., three sisters: Ms. Barbara A. Chaney of Los Angeles, CA, Ms. Dora Lake of York, AL. and Ms. Earnestine Moore of Livingston, AL Five grandchildren: Valerie R. May (Carl) of Jacksonville N.C., Barry S. Taylor of Coatopa, AL., Erica Rew of Meridian, MS, Denesha Emerson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Lazarious Darden of Oklahoma City, OK, two great grandchildren; Alliyah May and Jaden Taylor, Cousin Carrie M. Johnson and family, Aunt Thelma Johnson and family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including her church family member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church.
