Mrs. Irene Jones' Obituary
Irene (Delk) Jones, 83, went home to heaven on Wednesday, January 6th, 2021 & is now safe in
the arms of the Lord.
Irene was born March 21, 1937 in Kemper County Mississippi to the late Cornelius and Mary
(Boyd) Delk.
Irene professed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Tamola United Methodist
Church. She remained a member there until her death.
Irene attended the Porterville Consolidated School in Porterville, MS. She completed Early
Childhood courses at East Mississippi Community College, Meridian Community College, Mary
Holmes College and Mississippi State University – Meridian.
Irene showed a lifelong commitment towards the early development of countless children in the
community. She was employed by Friends of Children of Mississippi, Inc. for 40 plus years. She
started out as a volunteer and eventually worked her way up to be the Center Director.
Irene was a wife, homemaker and devoted mother. She loved to travel, cook, and watch her
children play basketball. She was immensely proud of her family and urged them to be the best
they could be in life.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Johnny M. Jones; daughter, Patricia A.
Jones; parents, Cornelius & Mary Delk; sister, Lena Mae Ellis; and brothers, Alvin Delk, Henry
Delk and Willie Delk.
Left to cherish Irene's memory are her children, Johnny Jones (Geraldine) of Lauderdale, MS,
Annie Jones of Dallas, TX, Charles Jones (Carla), Kenneth Jones (Janet), and James Jones (Jo
Ann) all of Louisville, KY; brothers, Smith Delk and Cornelius Delk Jr. of Meridian, MS; sister,
Rosie Boyd of Meridian, MS; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren

Viewings:
- All viewings are limited to one hour and no more than 10 people allowed in the chapel at one time where social distancing is not possible.
- Temperatures must be taken upon entering the lobby. Temperatures 100 degrees or more will not be allowed to enter.
- All visitors must wear a mask and are not allowed to touch, hug or kiss the body.
Graveside Services:
- Outdoor services are limited to 50 people where social distancing is not possible. All in attendance must wear a mask.
