James Eddie Harris Jr. was born to James Eddie Harris Sr. and Rutha Mae "Betty" McKinnis on Wednesday, October 13, 1976, in Meridian, MS.
"Junior" or "James Jr.", as he was so lovingly known, was a happy person. He loved to talk, joke, laugh, and enjoyed being in the company of his family and friends.
James worked proudly as a laborer/bricklayer and was blessed with a God-given gift as a talented drummer. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he was allowed to share this gift.
James transitioned from this life on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Ochsner Watkins Hospital in Quitman, MS at the age of 48.
James was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Rutha "Betty" McKinnis-Kinsey; his dear sister, Toni Melissa Harris; his paternal grandparents, Annie and Ocie Harris; his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Rosie Lee Sterling-McKinnis; and his cherished lifetime partner, Beverly Lashell Jasper.
Mr. James Eddie Harris Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love and precious memories. He is remembered by his father, James Eddie Harris Sr.
(Dorothy) of Chicago, IL; his children, Jaleesa Kierra Harris, Shamorie Akeem Harris, Jeremiah Ishmael Harris, Miracle Jakiya Whitaker-Harris, and Semaj Isaiah Whitaker-Harris; and his siblings, Ocie Shamori Harris, Freymond (Stacy) Harris, Frederick Taylor (Veronica), and Dyone Taylor, all of Chicago, IL.
He also leaves to treasure his memory two beloved grandchildren, Khamari Shakur and Kyndri Jru Dudley; two special aunts, Eva Nell (Ollie Brown and Katie Harris-Chambers; two great-aunts, Carrie Sterling and Lillie Mae Lynch; five nieces, six nephews, and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
