Mr. James Herlong, Jr.'s Obituary
Bro. James Herlong, Jr. was born to the late Mrs. Mary Lee Walker Herlong and the late Mr. James Albert Herlong, Sr. in Lauderdale, Mississippi. He confessed to God as an early age and became a stewardess at Elizabeth Methodist Church where he served faithfully until his health began to fail. On January 17, 1997 he married the love of his life, Alberta Vaugh. He worked and retired from Devnine and also worked as a custodian at the Toomsuba Headstart Center in Toomsuba, Mississippi. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS. He leaves to cherish a loving·and devoted wife of 21 years, Alberta Vaughn-Herlong of Lauderdale, MS; two (2) daughters, Debra Chatman of Columbiana, Alabama, and Johnnie Herlong of Meridian, MS; two (2) sons, Frederick and Earnest Herlong both of Meridian, MS; three (3) step-sons, Morris Wilson, Clovice Vaughn, and Darren (LaToya) Vaughn all of Atlanta, GA; one (1) step god-daughter, Endya Burton of Birmingham, AL; four (4) sisters, Mary Alice (Tommy Lee) Reed of Toomsuba, MS, Annie Maxie (Jacob) Herlong of Lauderdale, MS; Tweet Ester (Allen) Hare of Marion, MS; and Odessa (Jasper) Jones of Enterprise, AL; three (3) brothers, Hosea Herlong of Fairfield, AL; Sylvester (Grace) Herlong, Sr. of Lauderdale, MS and Moses (Freda) Herlong of Demopolis, AL; one (1) sister-in-law, Dora Tucker of Cuba, AL; a special nephew, Timothy Herlong; sixteen (16) grand children, twelve (12) great-grand children, two other step god children; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and.friends that loved him dearly. James was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a sister, Mattie Jane Webb and a nephew.
