Mr. James A. Jones' Obituary
On March 14,1941, a little baby boy was born to the late Elizabeth and Primus Jones in Tifton, Georgia. He was the youngest child of a large family who all preceded him in death.
He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Douglas, Georgia, and joined the US. Navy after graduation. In 1963 he married Doris Brookshire a classmate who graduated alongside him. He retired after serving 30 years in the US. Navy. Tours of Duty included: NAVTRACEN Bainbridge, MD, Argentia, Newfoundland, USS Chilton, NARTU-Lake Hearst, NJ, USS John F. Kennedy, NETC-Newport, RI, USS Tattnall, NAVADMJNCOM-Orlando, FL, Correctional CenterPhiladelphia, PA, USS Lexington-NAS Pensacola, FL. and completed several world cruises and earned numerous commendations. After retiring from the Navy, he served as a NJROTC Instructor at West Lauderdale High School and as a bus driver for Lauderdale County School District. He started Officiating sports many years ago while stationed in Argentia. One of his greatest moments was officiating/or the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters. He also continued officiating for all sports from Pewee to College. He retired from NTTC Meridian Supply School as an Instructor. After officially retiring he devoted more time to his real job, GOLF, but his most rewarding job was serving as Chairman of the Deacon's Board at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Jones will be missed praying a powerful prayer and singing "You Don't Know What the Lord Has Done for Me" and "We are Climbing Jacob's Ladder" off-beat. He will be remembered for sharing his prize produce grown in his garden with his family and friends. He loved the Lord, his church, his family and friends and he never met a stranger.
James A. Jones departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, MS.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Doris Jones, and two sons, Michael S. Jones (Patricia Gavion-Jones), New Orleans, LA, and Jeffrey A. Jones (Desiree' Hall-Jones), Raceland, LA, and a daughter, Vivian Brinson (Edward B. Brinson Jr.) Fredericksburg, ·vA. One daughter, Janice C. Fussell, preceded him in death, and one Goddaughter, Gloria Williams (Terry), Meridian, MS. He had several grandchildren, some biological, and some are God-sent. He loved all of them. They are LCDR Brandon Moody (Jade Moody) San Diego, CA, Tre' Brinson, (Fairfax, VA), Aliyah M Jones (New Orleans, LA), Jeffrey A. Jones II (USMC, Bremerton Washington), Jacob Austin Jones (Raceland, LA). Two great-grand daughters, Marlowe Brinson and Jay/a Moody. Adopted grands, Davette Littles, Gabriella Graham, Zoe Smith, Ta 'Neria Williams and Ta 'Nika Williams and a host of relatives and friends.
