Mr. James Russell Ludgood, Sr.'s Obituary
On July 13, 1936 a baby boy was born to the proud parentage of the late Jennie Ann and Fletcher Ludgood, Sr., in George County, Mississippi.
Russell started his education at Piney Wood School, Jackson, MS.
After graduation Russell joined the United States Army Reserve.
Two years later, he received an honorable discharge. As he closed this chapter of his life, he married his beloved wife, Bobbie Foster.
Their union lasted for fifty seven years.
Russell moved his family to Los Angeles, California where he worked for the City of Los Angeles as a sign painter until he retired. Russell also discovered he had a passion for running; he joined the Renaissance Running Club. The club was very active in the community. They started the Minnie Ripperton fun run to bring awareness to breast cancer. He also ran in many marathons in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. Russell, being a family oriented man, moved to Meridian to be closer to his brother.
Russell Christian walk began many years ago when he confessed
Christ at Lily Grove Baptist Church, Lucedale, MS. He continued his walk in Los Angeles, as a member of Praises of Zion Baptist.
After retirement he moved to Meridian and joined Sunlight
Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member when the Lord called him home on April 10, 2021.
Russell leaves to cherish his memory two devoted sons James, Jr.
(Carol), and Michael (Elaine); six grandchildren: Shant'e, Brooks-Chelsa, James III-Jennifer, Shasidy, Michael Jr. and Niklaus; five great grandchildren: Shondrea, DeAndrea, James IV, Jordan and Kairo, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
