Mr. James Parker, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. James “J.P. Parker Jr. was born on January 23, 2953 in Meridian, MS to the late James Parker Sr. and the late Rev. Sarah Parker Rivers. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Peter AME Zion Church where he faithfully served as the preacher’s steward until his death. J.P. began his formal education at West End Elementary School, Carver Jr. High School, and TJ Harris High School before transitioning to the newly integrated Meridian High School. Graduating in the class of 1971, JP continued his education at Meridian Junior College and later transferred to Jackson State University, where he graduated in 1975 with his undergraduate degree in Exceptional Education. JP’s love of learning led him to further his knowledge by obtaining a master’s degree from Mississippi State University. He earned additional teaching endorsements to his teaching certificate from JSU, MSU, and USM. James achieved many great things in life; one of which was being the first black male teacher at Beulah Hubbard. he began his illustrious and lengthy teaching career in the Meridian Public School District, specifically Northwest Junior High School, where he made life-long friends with co-workers and former students alike. James’ love for the meeting and helping people led him to his part-time job at Sears for over twenty years where he met many lifelong friends. After his retirement from MPSD, JP, at the urging of Ms. Josephine Virgil, came out of retirement and began teaching at Crossroads Non-Public School where he remained a dedicated employee until his untimely demise.
He departed this life on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS. He was preceded in death by his father, James Parker Sr.; mother, Rev. Sarah Parker Rivers; and three siblings: Matthew Dewayne, Allice Faye Mouton, and Stanley Graham.
His memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Bobbie Parker; children Deshunnica Eason, James Parker III, and Kadesia Parker; siblings: Robert Earl Parker, Minnie Parker Gallapsy, Susie Parker Burton, Johnny L. Parker, Mary L. Parker, Patricia Parker-Talley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved him dearly.
