Mrs. Janie Mae Mathews' Obituary
Janie Mae Mathews, known affectionately by family as Madea, was born on July 4, 1935 to the late Lillian B. Jackson and the late Mike Mathews in Selma, Alabama. She was the fist of five daughters born to Lillian Jackson. God called her home on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian, MS.
Janie joined First Union Baptist Church at an early age where she remained a member until her death.
Janie was always a prim and proper lady with a knack for fashion. She worked in retail for over 50 years in boutiques such as The Vogue, 23rd Place, and Nina’s. Her love for fashion also extended to the younger generation and she enjoyed 23 years of employment at Bambinos.
Janie was preceded in death by: her mother, Lillian B. Jackson; father, Mike Mathews; sister, Delores Clemons; sister, Debra Lewis; nephew, Willie Clemons Jr, and cousin Beatrice Hooks.
She leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories: her daughter, Sharon M. DuBose of Meridian, MS; two sisters: Mable L. Jackson of Meridian, MS; Sandra Russell (Allard) of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren: Cedric L. Mathews (Michelle) of Meridian, MS; Benny D. DuBose Jr. (Nyketra) of Meridian, MS; loving cousin: Huey P. Jackson of Meridian, MS; six nieces: Erica Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; Lillian Wilson of Tuscaloosa, AL; Angela Clemons of Dallas, TX; Ruby Clemons of Dallas, TX; Kimberly Russell of Jacksonville, FL; Michelle Russell of Jacksonville, FL; two nephews: Raymond Clemons of Tuscaloosa, AL; Vincent Lewis, Jr of Meridian, MS; sister of love: Mary Grady (Jimmy) of Meridian, MS; God son: Willie Tingle (Nig) of Meridian, MS; five great grandchildren: Brianna, Britney, Brooke, Kayla, and Kylei, and a host of special grand nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
