Mr. Jerome Hopson's Obituary
Jerome Hopson was born on Febrnary 13th, 1959, in Porterville, Mississippi, to the late Edna Young. He was later adopted by the late Early and Abbie Hopson. He would go on to live with his beloved cousin, John L. Whitsett, and his wife, Jessie B. Whitsett, who raised him as a son. He departed this life on December 18th, 2021 in Austin, Texas. Jerome attended Northeast Lauderdale High School and was a dazzling student. He was an independent thinker who marched to the beat of his own drum. He was very gifted with his hands and enjoyed working on cars and thought of himself as a mechanic. He was really adept at woodworking and fixing things. Jerome was also good at repairing electronics. If something was broken, Jerome knew how to fix it. He received numerous awards and certifications for his many talents. He also enjoyed listening to music, fishing, and taking his cigarette breaks. Jerome was a very determined person who took agency of his life. He was determined to live on his own terms. When he made up his mind to do something, he was going to make it come to :fruition. For example, Jerome used to always talk about moving to Austin, Texas, and no one took him seriously. Well, one day he did just that and lived there for over 20 years until his death. He leaves to cherish in his memory three brothers, Grady Lee-Jones (Lillie) of Livingston, Alabama; ·Henry Arrington of Rock Island, Illinois; and Johnny B. Whitsett (Janis) of Porterville, Mississippi; two sisters, Adlean Jones of Meridian, Mississippi; and Shirley Jones-Sewell (Johnny) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; special cousins, Savera and Ronnie Hopson, and a good friend, Lorenzo Clayton. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and othe:t relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Young; adoptive parents, Early and Abbie Hopson; adoptive parents John L., and Jesse B. Whitsett; siblings, Jesse James Whitsett; Octavia Truman; Lee Arthur Young; and a special aunt, Yvonne Moore.
