Mr. Jesse Snowden Sr.'s Obituary
Jesse William Snowden was born on October 9, 1941 to Ezell and Ollie Mae Snowden of Shucktown, MS. He was the eighth of nine children and was preceded in death by his brother John Wallace Snowden, and sisters Ardell Snowden, Ina Pearl Snowden Fairley, and Ollie Vivian Snowden Sykes. He was raised in a Christian home, accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Shucktown, MS. He was Chairman of the Trustee Board at Mt. Pleasant at death.
Jesse's education began at the Snowden School (Shucktown, MS), transferring Baily School (Bailey, MS), and later to Harris High School (Meridian, MS). During his early years Jesse (loving named Shang by sister Nancy), like all of the Snowden children was very energetic and adventurous. He developed a love for fishing. In his late teens; Jesse, cousins Pete Smith and Philip Grady, and 32 fellow Harris High School students joined a group of fruit pickers and left Meridian to earn money during the summer. At the end of the summer Jesse and Pete stayed with the pickers and went on to Florida where they remained for years. During his time away from Meridian, he acquired a skill in the concrete trades which was his profession until he was unable to perform the work due to failing health.
Jesse will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a "good man" - always smiling, a warm and helpful person, and as the "best concrete man in town."
He is survived by a son, Jesse W. Snowden, Jr, and a son by love, Travelle (Kobe) Ingram; grandchildren: Jesse W. Snowden, Ill, Janyla Snowden, Carson Snowden and Creed Snowden; brother and sisters: Brunetta Snowden-Willis, Ezell Snowden, Naney Snowden-Floyd, and Martha Snowden-Grier; and a host of loving nieces and nephews and many life-long friends.
