Mrs. Jessie Pearl Hardaway's Obituary
On July 15, 1929, Jessie Pearl entered the Earth as the sixth child born to James and Mary Hopkins Conley in Lauderdale County Meridian, Mississippi. She grew up in the Savoy community. Jessie gave her life to Christ at a young age and united with her family’s church, New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church Savoy under the leadership of Reverend Pollard at the age of 11. She served in many ministries of the church and was an active member until her health declined. Jessie attended Meridian Public School which included Wechsler and T.J. Harris High School. She graduated from Harris High in 1949.
Following high school, she united in Holy Matrimony with her husband, Edward Monroe Hardaway on June 15, 1950 with whom she was married for 62 years before his death on July 3, 2012. To this union, four children were born: Linda McCurty, Meridian, MS, Annie (Carlos) Lewis, Jackson, MS, Betty Harris, Powder Springs, GA, and Larry (Susan) Hardaway, Meridian, MS.
Jessie was a stay-at-home Mom, a very devoted wife and a wonderful mother entrenched with a calm spirit, and a wealth of wisdom....A Virtuous Woman who taught her children the ways of her father in Heaven. She nurtured her children with the love of Christ; disciplined her children with care and wisdom; and trained them in the way they should go. She continued giving them valuable lessons until the Father caught her final breath in the palm of His Almighty hands.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Christine Stringfellow, Earnestine Clark, Ida Lee Dubose, Birdie Lee Sidney, and Annie Jones. She is survived by her children, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a host of very special nieces and nephews.
We will be forever grateful to God first for presenting us with such an awesome gift when He chose her as our mother and a second gift for allowing us the privilege and honor to serve and care for her during her declining health.
