Ms. Jessie Beatrice Durr Thames' Obituary
Ms. Jessie Beatrice Durr Thames was born June 10, 1933 to the late Booker T. Thames and Bertha Durr Billups in Lauderdale County, Meridian, MS. She departed this life on April 15, 2016 at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. Jessie accepted Christ at an early age at East Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Meridian. She worker at Wyman in Meridian from 1951 to 1968. She was a devoted church worker and was loved by all. Her love for others transcended in being a Heath Care Provider, CNA, from 1969 to 1987 at Yellowstone Care Nursing Home in St. Louis. In 1998 she moved to Laurel to help care for dad and joined Sunlight MB. Church under the leadership of Rev. R.K. Minor. Serving in various duties at the church. In 2001 Jessie moved back to Meridian and united with Mt. Vally MB. Church and served faithfully until her health failed. Jessie was a fun loving, kind hearted, and faithful person. She was preceded in death by parents, stepmom, Althea Thames; grandparents, Wait and Mattie Thames; John and Alma Durr and one brother, Cleader Thames. Though now with Jesus her memories will live on in our hearths. Left to cherish precious memories are 2 nieces: Regina Edmonds and Sherron Warren whom she raised; eight sisters: Mattie ' (James) Armstead, Evelyn Jordan, Mary (Billy) Bester, Brenda Gore, " Betty (Alfred) Millsap and Eurma (Eddie) Trotter all of Laurel, MS; Eddie Hunter and Betty Smith of Meridian, MS; eight brothers: Booker T. (Helen) Thames, of Port Author, TX; Donnie and Ronnie Cole, both of Meridian, MS; Levell (Regina), Wendell, John (Thelma), Robert (Nora) Thames all of Laurel, MS and James Henderson of Detroit, MI; one aunt, Ruby Lockhart of Meridian, MS; a special nephew, Curtis Windham; a special niece, Latoya Gore; and a host of nieces and nephew cousins, other relatives and friends. She had a great love for animals "NaNa" her cat and "Queenie" her dog was loved dearly by her.
