Mrs. Jewel Boose Stringfellow's Obituary
Jewel Boose Stringfellow, “Big Mama”, was born in Newton, MS, on December 25, 1909 to the late Rev. John Boose and Hattie Trussell Boose. She was the oldest of four children. Jewel accepted Christ at an early age, attended Savanah Grove School and became a member of Savanah Grove Baptist Church. She united in holy matrimony with John Wesley Stringfellow and to this union five (5) children were born. Jewel joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society and served faithfully until her health failed.
Jewel “Big Mama”, was a homemaker and hard worker. She enjoyed cooking, baking cakes & pies and providing food for neighbors and friends who were in need. Her hobbies included fishing , gardening and reading the Bible. She was a strong, praying woman of God and stood on Psalms 23, 37 and 91. She took pride in her family who she loved very much. She was actively involved in the church and received pleasure from serving the Lord and ministering to others. She was truly a princess “Jewel” and will be missed immensely.
Jewel “Big Mama” was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John & Hattie Boose; her husband, John W. Stringfellow; three sons, John W Stringfellow, Jr. (Atlanta, GA); Warren C. Stringfellow (Gainesville, GA); and Rev. Ernest Stringfellow (Meridian, MS). Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Mrs. Martha McMillian and Mrs. Laura Rue. In addition, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Stringfellow, preceded her in death as well.
“Big Mama” leaves to cherish her memories: two (2) daughters,Mrs. Hattie Lewis-Shadwick, (Meridian) and Mrs. Daisy (Joe) Louis, (Lithia Spring, GA). “Big Mama” was blessed to live and enjoy: 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and at least 25 great-great grandchildren. To honor her memory are also three nieces and two nephews: Mrs. Louise Rue Holloway, (Meridian, MS), Mrs. Jean Rue, (Detroit, MI), and Mrs. Barbara Wilson, (Minnesota), Mr. Walter Rue, (Detroit, MI), Leon McMillian, (Detroit, MI). Additionally, two daughters-in-law, who will always honor “Big Mama”, Marie Stringfellow (Jackson, MS) and Ida Mae Stringfellow (Meridian, MS). Jewel leaves a host of cousins and other family members & friends.
