Mr. Jimmy E. Hill, III's Obituary
THE FIRST QUARTER
Jimmy Eugene Hill was the third of four children born to the late Eugene "Jim" Hill and Johnnie Mae (Dungy) Hill on July 20,1941 in Kemper County, Mississippi. "Junior," as he was affectionally called by his family and friends, accepted Christ, and was baptized into the fellowship of believers of Union Missionary Baptist Church, Kemper Springs, under the pastorate of Rev. Witherspoon. A product of the Lauderdale County School District,
"Junior" excelled in basketball and was a proud graduate of Middleton Attendance Center's
Class of 1960. He was able to further his education on a basketball scholarship to Mississippi Industrial College, majoring in physical education and business management.
After graduating from MIC in 1964, "Junior" was hired to coach varsity boys' basketball and to teach physical education classes at Woodville Agricultural and Training School.
HALFTIME
Determined to escape the racial tensions and discriminatory practices prevalent in Mississippi during the 60s and 70s, "Junior" decided to relocate to Long Beach, CA in pursuit of higher paying wages. He was employed by Austal USA as a ship builder. "Junior" would remain employed with Austal USA for a total of 40 years in the company's Pascagoula, MS, Mobile, AL, and New Orleans, LA locations; retiring as an assembly supervisor. Following the deaths of his father and older brother, Johnny B., "Junior" decided to return to the South to assist his sisters with caring for their elderly mother.
After relocating to New Orleans, he united with the Discipleship Christian Outreach Church under the leadership of Rev. Steven Hixon, Sr. "Junior" actively participated in and supported the ministries of the church until his health declined. In 2017, he was presented the church's Servant's Leadership Award. "Junior" was later selected to become a deacon, a process he was looking forward to completing before becoming ill. "Junior" enjoyed attending, refereeing, and watching all types of sports. He was also known for his very controversial and very loud game recaps however, "Junior" found peace and solace while reading and meditating on God's Word.
THE 4TH AND FINAL QUARTER
As his hearing and vision began to diminish, and after experiencing several debilitating strokes, "Junior" began praying for and preparing to enter the presence of the loving and merciful God of whom he diligently and faithfully served. His prayers were answered, and the angel of death escorted him to his destination just before daylight on June 4, 2024, at University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
