Mr. Jimmy R. Lewis' Obituary
On Friday, April 05, 2024, the world lost an incredible soul, Jimmy Ray Lewis, a man with a heart of gold, passed away surrounded by his loved ones. During his last days, he was cared for by his devoted wife and partner of 42 years, Johnnie Mae Hopson-Lewis.
Jimmy was born on February 19, 1946, and was the pride and joy of his parents, Roger Lewis and Mattie Cole-Lewis.
Although his parents preceded him in death, their love and guidance stayed with him throughout his life.
Also preceding him in death were his brother Robert Lewis; stepdaughter, Angelia Hopson; and grandson, Vanduras Hopson.
Jimmy attended Middleton Attendance Center, where he excelled academically and socially. After high school, Jimmy joined the United States Army and served as a military medic. He was passionate about helping others and found a great purpose in serving his country. His selflessness and dedication to his fellow soldiers earned him the respect and admiration of many.
Throughout his life, Jimmy's kindness, generosity, and warmth touched the
- hearts of everyone he met. He was a true friend to all and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he impacted and the memories he created.
He leaves cherish those memories; two sisters; Annie Pearl (Charles) Stokes and Irma Jean Baylor; one brother, Terry Lewis, all of Collinsville, MS. Two sons:
Glen (Swandra) Stancil and Tony Thorton; One daughter, Amanda (Jerry) Warren-Buckley of Dallas, Texas; five stepsons; Willie Cliff Moore, Bryant Dwayne Moore, Michael Moore, Tyrone Hopson, Jimmie (Bernice) Hopson, of Memphis, Tennessee, Four stepdaughters; Anila Johnson, Angela Moore, Dynell Goldsmith, Tywana Hopson-Toussiant, fourteen granddaughters, sixteen grandsons, ten great-granddaughters, nine great-grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
Jimmy Ray Lewis will be missed dearly.
