Mr. Joe Louis Hopkins' Obituary
Joe Louis Hopkins entered eternal peace victoriously on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. He was born on November 21, 1946, the son of Bessie Kay Harvey Hopkins and the late Joe Hopkins. As a child, Joe Louis accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Savoy, Mississippi under the pastorage of Rev. Witherspoon. There he was taught and nurtured in the faith and served in various ministries as an usher, choir member, and in the youth division. He later was ordained and served as a Deacon. Joe Louis was a great student. After graduating from Harris High School, he attended Harris Junior College where heparticipated in the choir and various athletic programs. He went onto receive a scholarship from Mississippi Valley State University where he earned a degree in Industrial Arts. Later, he attended Mississippi State University where he earned a Master's Degree in Education. Joe Louis served two years in the United States Navy attached to the USS Enterprise Cruise Ship. He went on to serve in the Reserve for more than 10 years. He was employed more than 25 years by the Meridian Public Schools District as an Industrial Arts teacher and an Exceptional Needs Math teacher, touching the lives of many students. Joe Louis was gifted with a melodious tenor voice. He was always willing to lead the devotional songs and hymns. Joe Louis had an enthusiastic sense of humor; his smile and laughter was infectious. Though he was very private, there was no doubt that he loved his family and friends dearly. Joe Louis was married to Sylvia Dianne Lofton for nine years. To this union were born three wonderful children Kimberly, Shana, and Steven. He was predeceased by his beloved father, Joe Hopkinsf,a brother Robert Earl Hopkins, three sisters, Cloreace Hopkins Vaughn, Eleanor Hopkins Whitlock, and Teresa Hopkins Cornelius, a special nephew, Rolandus Hopkins and special niece, Carla Vaughn Perkins. He.leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his; three daughters Kimberly Hopkins (Marion, AR); Shana Hopkins and Cynthia Roberts (Meridian, MS); a son, Steven Hopkins (Meridian, MS); a loving mother, Bessie Kaye Hopkins (Meridian, MS); one brother, Odell (Sylvia) Hopkins (Meridian, MS); one sister, Monica (Tim) Rue (Meridian, MS), a grandson, Joshua Hopkins (Warner Robbins, GA) and grand-daughter, Jasmine Rose Roberts (Meridian, MS); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends. He will be dearly missed andforever in our hearts.
