Mr. John Duke Lanier's Obituary
John "Duke" Lanier, II, was born December 26, 1943 in Kemper County, Mississippi, to the late John Lanier and Minnie Lee Davis Lanier, one of three children born to this union.
John worked in Dietary at Matty Hersee Hospital for many years.
Later, John left Mississippi and relocated to several states before settling in Detroit, Michigan. There, he worked at Jacob Industry for a number of years.
John united in holy matrimony to Mavis Welch, and to this union five children were born.
John loved to spend time with family and friends. He was a compas-sionate, caring and humble man with a heart of love, joy, friendliness and peacefulness to anyone he met. He was not a stranger to the dance floor, always ready to take a step or two whenever music was played.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Calvin Lanier, one sister who passed early in life, and one brother, Albert (Shane) Lanier.
He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Elaine (Fred) Lanier, and John (Zenia) Lanier, III both of Meridian, MS, Timmy (Belinda) Lanier of Collinsville, MS, and Tyrone (Tonisha) Lanier of Marion, MS; two bonus daughters, Patricia Lewis of Collinsville, MS, and Wendy Truitt of Marion, MS; one sister, Lisa McClelland; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren and a host of niec-es, nephews, aunts, other relatives and friends whom he loved and cherished dearly.
