Mrs. Johnnie Will Stennis' Obituary
Johnnie Will Harvey was born to the union of Rev Johnnie H Harvey and Mary L. Harvey on November 16, 1932 in DeKalb MS. Johnnie is known affectionately as ''Toeboy" by her family and friends. She completed her primary education at Harris Sr. High SchooI in Meridian, MS. She loved to play basketball and pursued her hobby in high school and then later as a student at Jackson State University. She went on to teach in the Mississippi Public School system. I On May 9, 1953 Johnnie was united in holy matrimony to Pervis Stennis in Gurry County, New Mexico. In the late 1950s she relocated to the Midwest, making a home in both Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL. She held positions at both the Veterans Administration Hospital in Milwaukee and Sara Lee in Chicago prior to working for the Unites States Post Office in January 1968. She retired from the Fort Dearborn Station on December 31, 1997 having 29 years of committed service. One of her greatest passions in life, outside of her love for sports, was her service to the National Council of Meridianites. For many years she served tirelessly to help build it into the organization it is today. During the 1980s she was privileged to serve as Regional Director of the Northern Region and then Chapter President of the Chicago Social Pals Meridianites. Later she served as First Vice President from 1997 -2001 and then as National President from 2001 -2005. Her service extended past her titles and well !into her last days. On Sunday, November 23, 2014 Johnnie was called home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev Johnnie H. Harvey and Mary L Harvey, five brothers: Jim, Peter, Roosevelt and Sam Henry Shoemate and William Harvey, along with one sister Dorothy Clayton. She leaves to cherish her memories; two sisters, Lesssie Ducksworth of Tuskegee, AL, and Loleta Tharpe of Milwaukee, WI; one brother, Jesse W. Harvey of Los Angeles; two Sisters-In-Law, Delia Shoemate and Joann Harvey; four Aunts; one Uncle and a host of meces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
