Mr. Johnny Phillips, Jr.

Mr. Johnny Phillips, Jr. was born on February 6, 1937. He was the only son of the late Mr. Johnny and Mrs. Lily Phillips. He fell in love and married Ms. Pauline G. Phillips at the tender age of 19. From this union, they had four beautiful children, Johnny Lee Phillips, Dorothy Ann Bush, Robert Earl Phillips and Michael David Phillips. During his early adult years, Mr. Johnny worked as an automobile mechanic at Seller's Automotive for over twenty years. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of fixing and painting cars with his young sons. However, one of his favorite pastimes was league bowling game and a shelf full of trophies to prove it. He had such a love for "the bowling alley" that when he put down his bowling ball, he picked up a second career there which lasted until the age of eighty. Mr. Johnny had a witty demeanor and was never one to bite his tongue. His love was sometimes tough but always genuine. He led by example in teaching his children and grandchildren what honest hard work was. He raised his children to give and command respect and taught his sons how to became men. Mr. Johnny was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his twilight years he came a faithful and devoted member of the New St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Later in life, he married for a second time to the late Mrs. Lois Phillips. They shared well deserved quiet and peaceful times in the home they made together before God called her home. From this union he gained three step sons and two step daughters. Mr. Johnny is survived by one daughter: Dorothy (Ray) Bush of Meridian, MS, one God daughter, Eliza Phillips of Toomsuba, MS; three sons: Johnny (Lois) Phillips of Atlanta, GA, Robert (Shiho) Phillips of Kure, Japan, and Michael David Phillips of Meridian, MS; grandchildren: Contina (Kelvin) Williams of Meridian, MS, Shanika (Julius) Wilson of Meridian, MS, Jamal Phillips of Jackson, MS, Justin Phillips of Meridian, MS, Michael T. Phillips of Meridian, MS, Kimberly (Courtney) Scott of Toomsuba, MS, Jeffery (Keisha) Phillips of Toomsuba, MS, Tavio (Rosie) Holmes of Meridian, MS, Antonio Harrison of Meridian, MS, Natasha (Sean) Mack of Florence, SC, Dewayne Cortwright of Fort Bragg, NC, Deon Phillips of Kure, Japan, Ray (Shaneeka) Bush Jr. of Yantley, AL, Teral Bush of Meridian, MS, Allen (Shanda) Bush of Whynot, MS, and Teena Walk of Meridian, MS; He is also survived by a host of great grandchildren, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother: Lily Phillips; father, Johnny Phillips Sr.; and granddaughter: Erica Michelle Bush.
