Mr. Jontae Lawan Poris, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Jontae Lawan Portis Sr. was born on November 5, 1978 to Dorothy Davis and Willie Hodges. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Meridian, MS.
Jontae was educated in the Meridian Public School System. He had a strong passion for sports. He played baseball, ran track and played football for Kate Griffin Junior High. He would later become a coach to his children, nephews and cousins. He also coached kids of his community with the East Mississippi Boys & Girls Club. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Portis. To this union three children were born. Jontae was a loving and devoted husband, father and son. He loved spending time with his family and friends on the weekends, either at his home or at the "46th lab." He loved fishing, grilling and listening to music. One of his favorite quotes was "You got to play to Win". Jontae was a hardworking man. He was employed with Structural Steel at the time of his departure.
He is preceded in death by his son: Marquett Portis, stepfather: Raymond Davis; two grandmothers: Connie Cullins and Luvenia Hodges; two grandfathers: Johnny Cullins and Robert Hodges; two uncles: Frank Portis and Charles Hodges; one aunt: Mary A. Frary; mother in law: Linda Richardson-Gill; father in law: Willie MeCoy Overstreet and sister in law: Qvonda McCoy. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 22 years, Jennifer Portis; two sons: Jontlle Portis, Jr and Damarcus Portis; his mother: Dorothy Davis; his father Willie Hodges; three sisters: Shenik Davis, Cherie Hodges Willis and Constance Jackson; one brother: Donte Hodges and a host of aunts, uncles nieces. nephews, cousins, sister in laws, brother in laws, friends and co-workers who will miss him dearly.
