Mrs. Josielean Nelson's Obituary
Josielean Hodges Nelson was born August 26, 1937 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi to the late Perry Hodges and Lillian Hannible Hodges. She joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member for over 65 years. She served in many capacities, including the Usher Board. She was also the designated "cook" for special occasions. Josielean attended Galilee until her health prevented her from attending. Josielean received her education.from the Lauderdale County School District. Afterwards, she joined the workforce. She was a dedicated worker at Van Zyverden for 35 years. After her retirement, she then worked at Alders gate Retirement Community until her health failed. Josielean was a joy to all. She was affectionately known as Granny, Josie, and Mama Jo and her humble and loving spirit touched everyone who came into her presence. She loved working outside and had a yard full of beautiful flowers. She also loved cooking and would cook enough food to feed everyone on the holidays. In 1953, Josielean united in holy matrimony to the late Louis David Nelson of Meridian, Mississippi. To this union, five children were born. On Thursday, May 9, 2019, God called Josielean to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Nelson; her parents, Perry and Lillian Hodges; a brother, James L. Hodges; a daughter, Glory Nelson Holliday; and one granddaughter, Denita Nelson. She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Louis and Chester (Susie) Nelson, both of Meridian, MS; two daughters, Darlene (Samuel) Latiker, New Orleans, LA and Januana (Jimmy) Ramsey, Meridian, MS; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and.friends; a special niece, Dessie Johnson; and a special sister-n-law, Ruby Knox.
