Mr. Larry Evans' Obituary
Life began with one heartbeat that can be compared to a journey. This wonderful journey began on March 16, 1949 for Larry Evans as he was the Jrd oldest of nine children born to the late Charles James and Mary McCarty Evans in Stonewall, MS. On Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Jeff Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian MS surrounded by family, his journey of life ended with that same one heartbeat from whence it began and the bright shining star of the Evans Family transitioned to a peaceful place. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles James and Mary McCarty Evans and one sister, Frances Price. At an early age, Larry confessed his life and hope in Christ and joined Rising Star Baptist Church in Stonewall, MS under the pastoral of Rev James. He also attended First United Missionary Baptist Church in Stonewall, MS. In 2008, he became active Acting Superintendent at Wesley Chapel Methodist Charge in Enterprise, MS. He was active in the church until his health started to decline in 2010. On March 16, 1974, he united in Holy Matrimony to Betty Joe McGowan. The Lord blessed them with one daughter, KerRita Michelle, who they nurtured with love, discipline, morals and values of life and how to stand for her own independence. As the 3rd oldest in the family, Larry felt that he was his brothers and sisters' keeper whom he loved so much. As he gained brothers and sisters in law, they became close to him that he loved and respected them as his brothers/sisters instead of in laws. Larry was a devoted husband of 44 years and an awesome father for 43 years. He was an outstanding, wonderful, loveable and compassionate man who loved the Lord, his wife, his daughter, his grandchildren, sisters and brothers. He gained the nickname "Chicken Hawk" and "Labo" from his family and friends that loved him so. He had numerous jobs throughout his life. In 1971, he joined the workforce of Burlington Industries. During his 31 years at Burlington, he held various jobs such as Loom Cleaner, Warp Man and Weaver. He was an excellent cook who loved to barbecue and fry fish which was his specialty. He loved hanging out with his two oldest sisters and family at the place called "The Hill". At "The Hill", he would DJ and barbecue, so everyone could enjoy themselves. His passion of life was reading his bible, telling people about God's Word, riding with his daughter and being in the company of his grandchildren, nephews and cousins especially Oscar and Terrance McGowan and Matthew Nunnery. Larry leaves to mourn his loving memories: his devoted and caring wife of 44 years, Betty Joe Evans; one outstanding daughter, KerRita Brown; three grandchildren, Kynesha Davis, Marquis Brown and Mevquis Brown, all of Enterprise, MS; four sisters, Easter Yates of Enterprise, MS, Juanita Evans of Meridian, MS, Darlene (Tommy) Williams and Charlene (Todd) Gross, both of Detroit, MI; three brothers, Robbie (Lula) Evans of Huntsville, AL, Dennis (Deborah) Evans of Meridian, MS and Michael Evans of Gulfport, MS; one aunt, Mamie Bumpers of St. Louis, MO; sisters-in-law, Frances (Grady) Moss and Ruby (Jerry) McGee both of Enterprise, MS, Annie (Dennis) Whigham and Lois Donald, both of Quitman, MS; brothers-in-law, Johnny Charles McGowan and James Thomas (Everlena) McGowan, both of Enterprise, MS, Willie Thomas (Aileen) Love of Moss Point, MS; Dr. Claude (Mary Ann) McGowan of Douglasville, GA, Willie Frank McGowan of Detroit, MI, Arthur B.
