Mrs. Latasha S. Hopson-Nelson's Obituary
Latasha S. Hopson-Nelson was born January 1, 1980 in Meridian, Mississippi to Rev. Robert and the late Sharon Hopson. The angel whispered in her ear and said, .(/here are your wings," on Friday, May 26, 2017. Being a Pastor's child, she agreed to give her life to God at an early age. Latasha attended Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and there she worked very closely with the youth, served on the Usher Board, the Young Women Auxiliary (YWA), and blessed us with her voice in the choir. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Norman L. Nelson, Jr., on April 7, 2012. Through this union, Norman gained a stepson, LaCedric Morton and Latasha gained a stepdaughter, Shalaiyah Brown. Latasha attended Southeast Lauderdale High School, where she was a member of the Safety Club, Spanish Club, and co-creator of the New Beginnings Chorus. She graduated fr01n Southeast Lauderdale High School in 1998. Afterwards, she attended Meridian Community College briefly before entering the workforce. Over the years, she worked at National Electronics Warranty and DIRECTV before she became the caregiver for her mother, until her passing in 2015. Subsequently, she remained a housewife and a stay-at-home mom to care for her son, LaCedric Morton, until her passing. Latasha was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Hopson, and one sister, Robin Coleman. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband of 5 years, Norman Nelson, Jr.; one loving and dear son, LaCedric Morton, and a stepdaughter, Shalaiyah Brown; her father, Pastor Robert Hopson of Meridian, MS; three sisters, Shonda Blanks of Scott AFB, Illinois; Rosailynne (David) Moore and Catasha Blanks, both of Meridian, MS; two brothers, Robert "Mortay" Hopson and Morris Blanks, both of Meridian, MS; two sisters-in-law, whom she was close friends, Tameka Graham and Patricia Graham, both of Ward, AL; three god-sisters, Kimberly (Terrance) Carter of Huntsville, AL; J. Sharron Shamburger of Clinton, MS; Evie (Milton) Burrage of Meridian, MS; god-brother, Bryant Blanks of Meridian, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Latasha loved life and believed in living every day to the fullest, by doing what she loved, shopping and traveling. One of her many quotes was: "I don't believe in karma, but I do believe firmly in reaping what you sow", "If you should climb over people to get to the top, you will not be there long", "and don't spend all your time worrying about dying, that you forget to live."
