Mrs. Lela Mae Nix Gowdy's Obituary
Lela Mae Nix Gowdy was born October 15, 1935 to the late Willie Nix and Mary Eliza Nix Gowdy in Lauderdale, MS. She gave her life to Christ at Mt. Carmel Baptist church at an early age. On July 24, 1951, she married the late Richard Gowdy Jr. They conceived nine children in their union.
She leaves to cherish her memories: 6 sons: George Gowdy (Gloria) of Bay Springs, MS, James Gowdy, John Gowdy, Henry Gowdy all of Meridian, MS, Billy Gowdy (Rita) of Atlanta, GA; Frankie Gowdy (Rabecca) of Hattiesburg, Ms and 2 daughters, Georgia Gowdy (Byron) of Huntsville, AL and Linda Hicks (Reginald) of Meridian, MS. She also leaves 30 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Nix, Ollie Willie Nix, Booker T. Nicks and her sister, Annie Pearl Gordon and one son, David Lee Gowdy.
