Mrs. Lenora Grant's Obituary
Lenora Grant, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 27, 2021. She was surrounded by her daughter, Sandra and grandsons: Jonathan and Matthew. Lenora was born on November 27, 1928 in Meridian, MS. She was the fifth of five children of Jesse and Maggie Edwards. After graduating from high school, Lenora moved to Jackson, MS where she attended Cosmetology School and started a long career as a Cosmetologist. She worked at various Beauty Shops before later working and retiring at Bee’s Beauty Shop. While at Bee's, Lenora also began a career with the City of Jackson as a School Crossing Guard where she worked for 30 years before retiring. She became a member of St. Mark1s Episcopal Church in the 1950s and remained a faithful member until her departure from this earth. Lenora was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Grant; brothers: William Edwards and Tommy Lee Edwards; sisters: Katie Marshall and Louise Lockett; stepsons: Samuel Anthony Grant, Ralph Edward Grant (Cassandra Grant) and James Grant (Dixie Grant). She leaves behind to cherish precious memories her daughter, Sandra Hayes (Melvin Hayes) of Hampton, GA; grandsons: Jonathan and Matthew Hayes of Hampton, GA; granddaughter, Maya Hayes of Germany; stepchildren: Annie Ruth Smith (former husband Samuel Smith) of North Carolina, Phyllis Bowman of Charlottesville, VA Janice Pierce (Rev. Tiffany Pierce) of Atlanta, GA Larry Grant (Faye Grant) of Jackson, MS, Rev. Dennis Grant (Mae Grant) of Terry, MS and Harold Grant of Jackson, MS; former daughters-in-law: Glenda Grant and Della Grant; loving nieces: Lula Edwards of South Bend IN, Cheryl Samuels (Rev. Samuels) of Chicago, IL, Kay Reels (Richard Reels) of Chicago, IL, and Jeraldean Edwards of Chicago, IL; nephews: Howard Edwards (Brenda Edwards) of Chicago, IL and Gregory Edwards of Dallas, Texas. Lenora, some knew as Bea, many knew as Mama Lee, will be remembered for her gracious and beautiful personality as well as her ability of always wanting to help someone. She often said, "If I can help someone along the way, my life will not have been in vain." Indeed she did live out that quote in her time on earth. She will be truly missed.
