Mr. Leon Walk's Obituary
Leon Walk was the second child born to the late Cliff and Arzie BeJJ Walk. He was born March 22, 1934 in Meridian, Ms. He departed this life September 20 2016 at Specialty Hospital of Meridian. He grew up and attended school in the community. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon until his health felled him. He was employed for fourteen years at Ander-son Regional Hospital. On July 9, 1966 , he became a Policeman in the city of Me-ridian, He was among the first group of African American to become a policeman. He was employed for 21 years, during that time received several awards for out-standing performance. After retirement on January 13, 1987, he became employed with the Lauderdale County Sheriff Department for 14 years. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons : Derrick Walk , Conyers, GA.; Ralph Smith. One daughter: Carolynn Burrage, Meridian ,Ms.; Three grandsons: Purvis Burrage (Tanya); Ralph Smith Jr. and Camron Smith. Four granddaughters: Doret-ta Rohney; Charollette Jones; Keisha and Shamarka Burrage all of Meridian, Ms. A devoted sister and caregiver, Laura Walk. One sister-in-law, Lizzie Walle. A niece, A nephew, A great niece, and A great great niece. And a host of relatives and Friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son: Clifton Dewayne Walk; one daughter: Mary S. Walk. One sister: Mary Earl Walk; and one brother Leo Walk.
