Mr. Lewis Terrell "L.T." Holland's Obituary
Rev. Lewis Holland affectionately known as "LT", existed his earthly home on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the age of 97. He was born April 28, 1922 in Athens, Louisiana to the late William Holland and Carrie Mitchell Holland. LT answered the call to do his patriotic duty by enlisting in the United States Armed Forces. Following his military service he married the late Mary Belle Waldon, to this union four children were born. A couple of years following their marriage, LT and Mary Belle relocated and made their move to the city of Detroit, Michigan. LT took a position with General Motors Corporation assembly plant, a career in which he served for 31 years until his retirement in 1984. The year 1961 would bring the next important chapter to LT's life when he answered the call into the ministry. God used hiin in a mighty way and promoted him to pastor ship. In 1962 he became the proud pastor of Community Baptist Church where he served for 2 years until his calling as pastor of Rising Son Baptist Church which would be renamed New Kingdom Baptist Church. Under his leadership, a new edifice was purchased. He served faithfully for 20 years until his retirement in 1984. In the later part of 1984, LT became the assistant pastor of the New White Stone Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. In September 1984, he married Ethel Mae Overstreet. They relocated to Mississippi in 1985 where they lived their lives to the fullest. LT became the interim pastor of the New Era Baptist Church for a short time. In 2016, he joined the Northcrest Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dan Lanier where he enjoyed the fellowship of his Sunday School class and the Senior Ministry. Yet, the most important aspect of his life was his love of God and his love for his family. His goal in life was to lead by example and to see Jesus one day. LT was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Leonard and Billy; brothers: Marvin, Ester and Slim; sister, Velma; granddaughter, Bridgett and daughter-in-law, Dorothy. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of thirty six years Ethel Mae Holland of Meridian, MS; two sons: Dennis M Holland, Sr., of Dearborn Heights, MI and Tyrone (Nicole) Overstreet of Warren, MI; one daughter: Vickie McFarland (Rev. Cleveland McFarland, Jr.) of Mobile, AL; grandchildren: Erica (Alfred) Guilford, Clevetta McFarland Perry (George P. Perry), Cleveland (Tabitha) McFarland IIL Dennis M Holland, Jr., Renard Holland, Danielle (Brandon) Cork; great grandchildren: Morgan, A 'Miracle, Kayla, Christopher, Donovan, Jalen, Cameron, Camori, Caiden, Caleb and Calleigh; sister-in-law: Jessie Jones Warren of Chicago; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom will miss him dearly.
