Mrs. Lucille G. Cox's Obituary
Mrs. Lucille Cox began her life as Lucille G. Coleman, the Oldest Daughter of Mr. Frank Coleman and Mrs. Elzenia Brock Coleman and was born in Darlington, South Carolina. She has as a Brother, Charles F. Coleman (Deceased) and Sister, Ms. Fannie E. Coleman. Lucille went away to Finishing School in Providence, Rhode Island, that is where she met Mr. Emile Cox Jr., II USN RET. (Deceased).The two fell in Love and Married in Providence, RI while Mr. Cox was serving in the US Navy. Together they gave birth to six children; Deborah A. Cox-Todd; Emile Cox III, Ronald F. Cox, Kenneth G. Cox, Michael L. Cox (Deceased) and Michelle L. Cox. The Family moved to Meridian, MS in 1962 after Mr. Cox received his reporting orders to NAS Meridian. Lucille became a matriculated student at Meridian Junior College and earned her Associates in Nursing; she graduated a Licensed Practical Nurse and was Valedictorian of her Graduating Class. She practiced Nursing at East Mississippi State Hospital and Riley Nursing Home. Before continuing her education; Lucille served her community as part of the Civil Rights movement. She worked on various committees with many Men and Women of Meridian who served, walked and prayed, to help ensure the rights we have today. She worked for the Head Start Program and was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church before becoming a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church then moving to Prince of Peace Church Christian Church under the leadership of Dr. Zachary Operton. Mrs. Cox passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Bedford Care Facility in Marion, MS. Mrs. Cox is Survived by her Sister Fannie E. Coleman of High Point, NC and Brother Cousins Samuel Coleman and Alfonso Brock. Her children; Deborah (Husband, Carl L. Todd Jr.), Emile, Ronald, Kenneth and Michelle (partner Katharine Hooper). Her Grandchildren, Carlissa M. McCoy (Husband, Michael McCoy); C. Leland Todd III (Wife, Kanisha Todd), Phillip C. Todd, Katrina P. Cox, Bill W. Hooper (Wife Rosa Hooper) and Teeya N. Monroe. Her Sister-In-Law; Mrs. Helen M. Coleman. Her nephews and nieces; Charles F. Coleman III, Theresa Coleman-Gillis, Dwight Short-Coleman, Renea C. Coleman, Cardenia Coleman, Michael Coleman and Sandra Coleman-Gaskins. Her Great-Grandchildren; Marquis; Ja'Mar, Adrianna, Brianna; Joseph, Julyssa, David and Sean. She is also survived by a plethora of Friends that are just like Family. I will mention a few, but please forgive me, if you were not mentioned. Mrs. Helen-Marie Lewis, Mr. A.C.
