Mrs. Lucy C. Willis' Obituary
Lucy Cornelia Barney Willis was born on September 11, 1943 in Toomsuba, Mississippi to James Barney, Sr. and Rosie Toole Barney. She departed this life on February 3, 2020 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Bertha Barlow, Mary Barney, and one brother Luther Barney. Lucy gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She served as Choir President, Usher Board President, and a member of the Trustee Board. Lucy was very faithful to her church and her family. In addition, she enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes, and most of all, spending time with her Grandchildren and her Great Granddaughter Malia. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: a Loving and devoted husband of sixty (60) years -Chester Willis; five loving children: Chester Lovell Willis, Cheryl Porter, Sandra Shoemaker, Felicia Willis, and Barbara Willis all of Meridian, Mississippi. She also leaves to cherish eight Grandchildren: Steven Willis of Meridian, Mississippi, Jeremy Willis of Meridian, Mississippi, Shakira Shoemaker of Meridian, Mississippi, Ladarius Shoemaker of Meridian, Mississippi, Damion Willis of Cincinnati, Ohio, Destanee Shoemaker of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Brianna Willis of Meridian, Mississippi, Brycen Straight of Meridian, Mississippi, and one great Granddaughter Malia Allen of Meridian, Mississippi. Three sisters: Ethel Ray (Hollis) of Meridian, Mississippi, Rosia M. Barney (Tommy) of Flint, Michigan and Joyce Brewster of Meridian, Mississippi. Three brothers: Pastor James Barney, Jr. (Regina), Richard Lee Barney, and Jerry Barney all of Meridian, Mississippi; one special cousin Geraldine Turkvan of Meridian, Mississippi; two special children that she considered as her own: Chakelya (Pooh) Harbin of Meridian, Mississippi and Jakelyia Willis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
