Mrs. Mae Frances Barrett's Obituary
Mae Frances Barrett was born on October 25, 1934 to the late Willie and Verda Mae Brown in Bailey, Mississippi. She was the oldest of seven siblings: Willie, Elijah, Gorge, Walterine, James, Samuel, and Elizabeth.
She attended Bailey School in Bailey, Mississippi. After high school, Mae Frances united in Holy Matrimony to Marion Jones. She later relocated to Los Angeles, California. Mae Frances and Marion were blessed with their first child, Romona Jones in 1957. During the early years of their marriage, Mae Frances and Marion divorced. She decided to move back to her hometown on Meridian, Mississippi with her first child. Several years later, Mae Frances met her second husband, Abe Barrett in Meridian, and they were blessed with four children: Billy Ray, Margaret Ana, Linda Faye, and Eddie Lee Barrett. Mae Frances and Abe spent 20 years plus together until they divorced.
In the early 80s, Mae Frances joined Mount Olive Baptist church in Meridian where she sang in the choir and enjoyed Sunday Services. She was a faithful member until her health started to decline. Mae Frances was also a very hard worker. She worked for the Holiday Inn and also Meridian Unified School District where she served as a cook.
Mae Frances enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, and also raising her five children. She loved shopping. She was a very sharp dresser, and she was very fashionable. She also loved her red lipstick. She enjoyed joking around and making others laugh. In her free time, she loved to read and do crossword puzzles. Mae Frances loved the company of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
On January 23, 2021, God called Mae Frances Barrett home to be with Him.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Verda Mae Brown; father, Willie Brown; brothers: James, Elijah, Gorge, Samuel, and Willie Brown.
Mae Frances leaves her memories to: her five children, daughters: Romona Jones of Richmond, CA; Margaret Barrett and Linda Barrett, both of Meridian, MS; sons: Eddie Barrett and Billy (Sharon) Barrett, both of Meridian, MS. She also leaves her memories with: her 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Walterine Woodard of Cleveland, OH and Elizabeth Brown of Meridian, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friend who will miss her dearly .
