Mrs. Malissa Speed's Obituary
Malissa was the second of four children born to the proud parents of the late Dave and Mabel Stokes Rogers. She was brought up in a Christian home and in the Church. At an early age she joined Bethel Methodist Church where she and two of her sisters formed the Rogers Trio. They often sang at different churches in and around their community. She was the mother of four children: Helen, Alice, Carl, and Joyce.
While living in Dallas, Texas Malissa continued working for the Lord by being a dedicated member of True Light Baptist Church. When she and her late husband relocated to Quitman, she united with Old Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She later became an active member of Mt. Hebom Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mother's Board. She remained a dedicated, faithful, and committed member even after her failing health. Malissa finished all of her earthly duties and departed this life peacefully at her home on Monday, December 8, 2014. Malissa leaves to cherish her loving memory one daughter, Joyce Lott-Taylor; and one son, Carl Lott, Sr., both of Quitman, MS; one sister, Hazel (Cecil) Lilliston, Rockaway Beach, NY; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grand children, a special granddaugh-ter-in-law, Amarylis McQueen, Chicago, IL and a special great nephew, John Grimes, Hoschton, GA; one spiritual daughter, Anna Morgan, Houston, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Malissa was preceded in death by her beloved husband Samuel Speed, two daughters Helen Lott, Alice Mosher, her father, Dave Rogers; her mother, Mabel Rogers; and two granddaughters: LaTesa Love and Deidra McQueen; two sisters: Velma and Rosie Belle.
