Mr. Marcus Darryl Hill's Obituary
Professionally known as Marcus and affectionately called Darryl by his mother and family members, Darryl was born on June 12, 1955, in Meridian Mississippi. He moved with his mother to Chicago Illinois, and attended grammar school there graduating from Beale Upper Grade Center's eighth grade. His mother Lillian described him as a helpful son, always assisting her in keeping track of his three- and two-year-old sisters Rhonda and Angie. As a young boy Darryl was baptized and attended Sunday School, while serving and served as an usher at the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. where his step-father Rev. R.G. Jackson (Jack) served as an assistant pastor.
Marcus left Chicago at approximately 14 years old to live in Meridian Mississippi with his aunt and uncle, Dorothy and John Taylor Jr., who doted on him. He continued his education there attending Meridian High School. He graduated in 1973.
Darryl was a good student and popular. He was known to be a gifted musician. His instruments of choice were the piano and the bass guitar. Music was in Darryl's blood as his father Lemuel (Ace) Hill of the Ace Hill Trio was an accomplished jazz pianist. Darryl formed bands and played at events throughout high school and his Naval service.
Having an adventurous spirit, Darryl left Meridian to join the Navy in 1973 at the tender age of eighteen. Darryl played in a band onboard his navy vessel and worked in the office as a general clerk, which began his love of technology. He was honorably discharged on June 14, 1979. After serving in the Navy, Darryl joined his older brother Gary and sister Sandra in California. There he became proficient in information technology (IT). His computer skills enabled him to have a lifelong very lucrative career. He worked in various positions for high-profile companies like CISCO and Linux, and Wells Fargo, in the position of project manager.
After spending over a decade in California, Darryl moved to Maryland in 2013 and, with assistance from his nephew Eric, landed a highly coveted project manager position with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Darryl worked at the IRS from December 3, 2012 years, retiring from the IRS on April 30, 2021.
After a year at the IRS Darryl purchased a beautiful new 4-bedroom home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. It was a gathering place welcoming family and friends of family to summer barbecues and many Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday celebrations.
Darryl departed this world on Friday, October 6, 2023. He is preceded in death by his mother; Lillian Marie Jackson, Father; Lemuel (Ace) Hill, Aunt; Dorothy Taylor and Uncle: John Taylor Jr.
