Mrs. Margaret Jean McGlothin's Obituary
On September 24, 1932, the Eternal God released Margaret Jean McGlothin into the earth. Margaret was the first child born to the union ofFernandis and Sarah McGlothin, of Meridian, Mississippi. True to the spirit of being the first born, Margaret was determined to be an individual. She despised being dressed like her sister, Dorothy. For the rest of her life, she found pleasure in being a true fashionista. She especially loved dressing for special occasions, events, and keeping her hair and her nails immaculate. At a young age, Margaret suffered a terrible fall that left a curvature in her spine. This accident may have halted the life and activity of an average person, but Margaret was anything but average. Margaret, or "Ms. Margaret" as she was lovingly called, went on to live a very full life. Not only did she assist in the rearing of her 9 siblings, she went on to be educated in the Meridian Public School system, and then gave birth to three wonderful children of her own. Margaret was a feisty individual, to say the least. She spoke her mind without apology! You did not ask Margaret a question if you did not want a straight answer! Simply put, Margaret believed that life was meant to be lived honestly and joyfully! At a very young age, Margaret accepted Christ Jesus, as her personal Savior, and was baptized at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.D. Pollard. Margaret served in the church as a member of the Home Mission Ministry and loved to attend Sunday School. She loved to hear the choir sing on Sunday morning, and enjoyed hearing Pastor Hopkins preach. She continued attending worship at NPMBC, until her health no longer permitted her to do so. Although she could no longer attend worship, her faith and trust in the Lord never wavered. Family was at the foundation of Margaret's life. She loved her family; especially her children and grand-children. Whenever the family gathered for holidays and special occasions, You could find Margaret at the center of a lively conversation, laughing and sharing stories, or sitting amomg her grandchildren and great grandchildren watching a good movie or cheering for Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors! Margaret was quick-witted, humorous and lived life on her own terms, even until her death.
For years, Margaret worked in customer service, first as an employee at Hayne's Nursery and then at Neil and Sanders Cleaners. Her true passion was caring for children. After her employment Neil and Sanders Cleaners, she began caring for children while their parents worked. What began as a few children, from time to time, led to Ms. Margaret being the daily caregiver/surrogate grandmother to a multitude of children. Some of Ms. Margaret's babies went on to have babies of their own and when they needed someone to keep their children, they brought them to Ms. Margaret! On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, the Eternal God kept His promise and called Margaret Jean McGlothin from Earth to eternal life. She was preceded in death by her parents, son (Carlos), and brothers (Leon, Leo, Walter, and Femandis Jr.) Margaret leaves to cherish her memory; one son, Otis McGlothin of Detroit, MI; one daughter, Annie (James) Price of Meridian, MS; six sisters, Dorothy Blackmon and Shirley McGlothin-Barnes of Cleveland, OH; Geraldine M. Hearn of Detroit, .MI; Mary (Gary) Dennis ofKokomo, IN; Doris Staton of Meridian, MS; and Sharon (Tim) Evans of Detroit, Ml; seven grandchildren, Demetra (Anthony), James (Teresa), Douglas, Dujuan (Andrika), Octavia, Justin (Lisa), and Omar; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one aunt, Ms. LeGirtha Hall of Meridian, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
