Mrs. Margaret Powers Page's Obituary
On Monday evening, March 6, 2023, an angel from heaven whispered Margaret peace be still, obey my will, rest from your weary labor. Come to your Heavenly home. Margaret transitioned to her Heavenly Home. She truly fought the good fight and finished her course.
Margaret Powers Page was born on May 14, 1945. She was the fifth child of seven born to Hezzie and Janie Powers of Meridian, MS. She was affectionately called "MarLou" by her parents and siblings. She attended Quitman and Meridian Public Schools.
Margaret united in holy matrimony to George C. Page in 1963. To this union one son was born. As a result of her husband serving his country in the United States Navy, she had the opportunity to travel and see places she had only read about in textbooks; Florida, California and several countries abroad. After her husband retired from the Navy, they returned to Meridian, MS in 1971.
Margaret and family were members of Fifth Street Baptist Church. She was baptized in the early 1950s under the leadership of Rev. I.C. Day, and later under Bishop William C. Brown. She was president of the Usher Board. She was also a member of Mission Auxiliary of 5th Street Missionary Baptist Church. She later join 31st Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. S.L. Thompson. At 31st Missionary Baptist Church, she was a dedicated mother of the church , and she was willing to serve the church in any capacity. She had a unique relationship with all the women of the church, especially Mother Hudnall, First Lady Coleman, and Sis. Chersha Baylor.
Margaret was a very strong woman. She overcame several serious illnesses. Fifteen years ago, she was hospitalized at University of Alabama at Birmingham and underwent a serious operation of many hours. Her doctors did not think she was going to make it. By the grace of God, she came through and lived a normal life for several years. The last six months of her life, her health declined drastically. She experienced constant pain, required daily use of an oxygen tank, received nursing care in her home, as well as many hospital visits.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Hezzie Powers (Brenda) of Meridian, MS; one brother, Hezzie Eugene Powers of Pensacola, FL; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two nieces: Minister Bettie McCarthy of Madison, MS and Dorothy Wright of Jacksonville, FL; three nephews, Minster Ozie L. Townsend, Michael Powers, and Sean Powers; and host of great nieces and great nephews; three very dear cousins, Mary "Bay Lou/Bay Nu” Mike of Mobile, AL; and Willie Sanders (Ruth) of Meridian, MS; and dear friends and neighbors, Sarah Mathis, Shirley Trotter, Sandra Thompson, Tammy Ridgeway Thompson, Yolanda Emerson, Vernitta Ball, Charmaine Hurley, Janie Dawson and Betty Hosley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Mary Lee Townsend, Willie James Powers. Johnnie B. Powers, and Frank Powers.
