Mr. Marvell Spears' Obituary
Marvell Spears was born November 11, 1921. He was the son to the late Mr. Lewis Spears and Mrs. Lillie Lee. Marvell had 3 sisters: Lillie Ruth Hicks (Tuskegee, AL), Bessie Spears and Lessie Spears preceded him in death and 3 brothers: Marshall James Spears, Robert Spears and Lewis Spears, preceded him in death.
Marvell was educated in the Lauderdale County Public School system. In 1943, Marvell Sr. joined the United States Army and later transferred to the United States Air Force. On March 17, 1947, he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Annie Lee Townsend. Their marriage was blessed with two children: One daughter, Betty Jean Spears Sillimon preceded him in death and one son Marvell spears Jr. (Charleston, SC)
Marvell retired in 1963 from the Air Force where he worked as chef. He continued to work in the Culinary Art field for another 18 years. He enjoyed staying busy, as he worked various jobs, Marvell was a jack of all trades. He was a dedicated worker all his life, who believed in providing for his family. Marvell was a previous member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Toomsuba, MS.
In 1999, Marvell came to live with his son Marvell Jr. and his family in Charleston, SC. He brought joy to his family and grandchildren. He always had a story to tell while eating a can of peaches, his favorite snack food. He was very active in the community where he had lots of friends.
