Mrs. Mary Lee Wilson's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Lee Wilson was born to the late Mr. Simmie and Hallie Q. Walten Payne on November 12, 1930. At an early age, she confessed Christ and united with the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Battlefield in Newton County. She often discussed her childhood, growing up and helping her father in the fields plowing and carrying water to the field helpers. She attended the Newton County Schools.
Later in life, she met Mr. Robert Wilson and they married in 1951. To this union five children were born. After being married, raising five children, babysitting the grandchildren that she loved so well, Mary started a new career as the manager of the Mix Inn Cafe for twenty-five years or more.
She had a love for people and during her latter years, she would do volunteer work for Senior Services. Mary loved to travel, visiting with her children and grandchildren in Atlanta, Georgia and Cincinnati, Ohio, and on occasion, she visited relatives in Chicago, Illinois. Mary was known for her delicious sour cream pound cakes. She was always dressed to kill and to complete the look, she always wore her "lipstick".
Mary was preceded in death by her son, Lederrack Anthony Wilson (BKA) Puju, her parents, one sister, the late Mrs. Annie Payne Clemons and one brother Johnnie Dalton Payne.
On Tuesday. February 5, 2013 at 11:52 a.m. in Golden Living Nursing Home, God called her home. Mary lived a long, prosperous life. She leaves to cherish her memory one loving sister, Miss Gracie Payne of Meridian, MS; Four children, Miss Mary Floyd; Miss Mario Wilson both of Atlanta, GA; Mrs. Carolyn Burks (Cleveland) and Tyrone Wilson both of Meridian, MS; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
